Skip Robinson

    Managing Director: Skip Robinson
Before reopening his consultancy Mr. Robinson was the Director of Operations at Hodgdon Yachts, builder of high luxury, one-off composite yachts and patrol boats. While there he oversaw the development and construction of a high technology, composite, carbon fiber, high-speed 23.5-meter yacht for one of Europe’s premier yachting enthusiasts.

Prior to his management role at Hodgdon he was a consultant: to a Kuwaiti group developing a dealership and boat building entity in the Mid East; and earlier to Warboats, where he assisted with concept design and the manufacturing paradigm for military vessels 80′ – 140′.

From 2000 to 2003 Skip was the Vice President and General Manager of the Palmer Johnson mega yacht construction, refit and repair shipyards in Thunderbolt and Savannah Georgia, retiring from the position soon after the company was sold and the business consolidated to Sturgeon Bay. During his time at PJ Robinson developed the processes and procedures that brought his 250-employee division to the highest level of operating profit in its 10-year history. He implemented a new management structure,as well as a customized computer program adapted to the Navy SWBS system for monitoring and managing large refit and new construction projects.

Skip has been a yacht broker since 1969, first in Massachusetts and later licensed in 1989 in Florida, where he worked full time in that capacity for a total of three years, which included a period as Managing Director of Merle Wood & Associates, one of the most successful mega yacht brokers in the world.

He began his career in the boat business in 1968 when he purchased what was then a mom and pop marina and service yard on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In the twenty years of his ownership before he sold it, he built the business to a multi-million dollar facility that included 35 employees, a new construction division, a marina construction division, an AWLgrip industrial coating and distributorship division, a retail sales operation and a full service marina with 105 slips, 85 dry stack bays and 30 moorings.

Skip’s business experience is varied and spans over 40 years. Briefly and in addition to his primary interest in the marine industry, he has taught at the university level, worked as the managing partner of a water front development project in Florida and spent two years as an executive in a recycling company.

His professional associations and memberships past and present include: Board of Directors, Maine Marine Trade Association; Board of Directors, Massachusetts Marine Trade Association; Yacht Architects and Brokers Association (YABA); Florida Yacht Brokers Association; American Boat Builders and Repairers Association (ABBRA); American Power Boat Association (APBA)
